A massive change for the Clippers with a completely new coaching staff coming in mid season.

Darren Naylor replaces Mike Vandekamp behind bench for divisional road games this weekend.

Vandekamp was the coach and GM for six and a half seasons, highlighted by two Island Division titles and an appearance in the 2015 Fred Page Cup.

Naylor takes over after a stint with the Delta Icehawks of the PJHL.

His team was in first place in the league with a 26-2-0-1 record when he departed to take over in Nanaimo.

The Clippers went 2-1 on their last road trip with impressive wins in Trail and Penticton and a 4-2 loss in Merritt.

Nanaimo beat Trail 7-3 and took down the Vees 4-2 at the South Okanagan Events Centre during that trip that wrapped up on December 17.

This Friday’s game in Powell River is a first place showdown with the Clippers trailing the first place Kings by just a single point in the division standings.

On Saturday Nanaimo looks to continue their mastery over Cowichan Valley.

The Clippers have a 4-0 record versus the Caps so far this season.

The next home game for Nanaimo isn’t until Friday January 5 when they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
