CLIPPERS IN FIRST PLACE AFTER 2-1 WIN IN POWELL RIVER

It was a winning debut for new coach Darren Naylor as the Clippers won 2-1 over the Kings on Friday.

It was also a win that vaulted the team into first place in the Island Division standings.

Both Nanaimo goals came in the first two and a half minutes of the game on a strange dump in from David Melaragni and rebound opportunity for Hunor Torszok.

Mitchell Williams put a high shot by Taz Burman to give Powell River their only goal, also in the first.

From then on Burman and Kings goalie Mitch Adamyk shut things down with the shots finishing 34-31 in Nanaimo’s favour.

Both teams went 0/4 on the man advantage.

Friday’s Three Stars

1) Taz Burman 30 saves

2) Hunor Torszok 1g

3) Mitch Adamyk 32 saves

The Clippers wrap up 2017 with a game in Cowichan Valley on Saturday.
