Clippers Fill the Net Against Victoria

It's three wins in a row for the Nanaimp Clippers after a 7-4 decision over the Victoria Grizzlies on Friday night.

Nanaimo has points in five or six games this season and the team has scored 20 goals in the last three games.

For the fourth game in a row Nanaimo scored the first goal and it only took 14 seconds for Trevor Fitzgerald to hit the score sheet.

Tanner Clarkson extended the lead to 2-0 on a deflection at 4:28 before Wade Murphy's power play goal brought the Grizzlies within one.

By the time the first period was over the Clippers had built up a 4-1 lead on goals by Gladiuk and then Hartskamp on the PP with just 17 seconds left.

In the first minute of the second period David Iacono struck with the man up to give the Clippers a 5-1 lead.

Then cue the Grizzlies rally; Holland on a well executed power play one timer at 4:30, and Moran with a goalmouth tap in at 17:15 put the game to 5-3 after 40 minutes.

When Wesley Myron scored with a man up at 5:10 of the third period it was Victoria with the momentum but Jesse Neher's first BCHL goal ,set up by Fitzgerald just over two minutes later, was the insurance the Clippers needed to salt away the win.

Kyle Kramer's empty netter was just icing on the cake.

In the second period the Clippers Adam Smith was assessed a game misconduct as he tried to get into a scrap with Victoria Captain Sean Robertson.

Nanaimo also lost Tristan Lowenberger in the third – he limped off the ice after a collision in the late going.

The Clippers outshot the Grizzlies 23-17 while Victoria won the special teams battle going 3/5 on the power play as compared to Nanaimo's 2/7 efficiency.

The three stars were 1) Trevor Fitzgerald 2) Kyle Kramer 3) Brad Gehl

Nanaimo battles Surrey at home Sunday at 3pm and then it's two more with Victoria on the 12th and 16th.
