Clippers Fall to Eagles on Thanksgiving Sunday

Nanaimo's three game winning streak is over after a 4-3 loss to the Surrey Eagles on Sunday.

Both teams came into the game with identical 3-1-0-2 records but a road weary Eagles club looked anything but en route to the win.

In the first period the Clippers opened the scoring at 14:21 on a Colton Cyr power play deflection, and the Ealges knotted it up on a Michael Stenerson rebound at 18:16.

Cyr put Nanaimo back in front, once again on a power play, at 13:50 of the second period but the lead was shortlived.

At 18:12 Devon Toews stepped out of the penalty box and snapped a shot stick side by Chris Eiserman leaving the two teams locked at two after 40 minutes.

With everything even going into the third Surrey grabbed their first lead at 4:09 on a goalmouth tap in credited to Shawn McGovern.

Then a DJ Jones point shot with a man up gave the Eagles some breathing room and a 4-2 lead at 14:34.

Kyle Kramer brought Nanaimo within one with 43 seconds to go but they were unable to generate a tying goal.

The Clippers went 2/11 on the man advantage while the Eagles were 1/7.

Surrey also enjoyed a 32-30 edge in shots on goal.

Three stars were 1) Tyler Morley 2) Colton Cyr 3) Michael Stenerson

Up next the Clippers have a home and home series with Victoria, Wednesday at Bear Mountain and Sunday at Frank Crane Arena.
