Nanaimo KEEPS Getting Better

17-year-old netminder, Tyler Hodges, has joined the Nanaimo Clippers. Born On December 23, 2005, in Gormley, Ontario, Tyler stands tall at 6’1” and weighs 165 lbs. As a left-handed catcher, Tyler brings an undeniable talent to the Nanaimo Clippers organization.

Mature as a player, Tyler carries himself very calmly. He tracks the puck very well and brings a reliable combination of athleticism and composure to the back end. “I’ve always looked up to Marc-Andre Fleury,” Tyler said while comparing their games, “he’s an exceptional goalie. I like to model my style after Carry Price as well. He’s very composed and knows how to make the game simple.”

During the 2022-23 season, Hodges displayed exceptional abilities between the pipes. In his 19 starts for the Haliburton County Huskies, he accumulated a strong 13 wins and 5 losses, with 4 of those wins ending as a shutout. With a stellar goals-against average of 2.00 and a remarkable save percentage of .931, Hodges consistently proved his ability to keep his team in games. Hodges' exceptional performance throughout the season did not go unnoticed, as he was recognized as a member of the OJHL Second Team All-Prospect

It’s evident through his gameplay that Tyler earned his starts. As a 16/17-year-old in Jr. A, that’s no easy feat. “It’s a different game in junior,” Tyler said, “the pace of the game is faster and the net front traffic is a lot heavier. I’m composed back there and the staff trusted me.” Tyler looks forward to bringing that same confidence to his game in Nanaimo.

While Tyler is thrilled to join the team on the ice, he’s also looking forward to exploring what BC and Nanaimo have to offer. “I’m a big outdoors guy, I love to fish and get outside,” Tyler said, “I’m excited to meet the team, the staff, and the fans. Nanaimo looks like a great place to be and I can’t wait to get started.”
