Nanaimo Clippers Announce Black Ace Defenseman Sean Barnhill

The Nanaimo Clippers are thrilled to announce the addition of Sean Barnhill to their roster as a Black Ace for the remainder of the 2023-24 BCHL season and into the playoffs. Sean comes to the Clippers from Scottsdale, Arizona. The 16-year-old defenseman brings a wealth of talent and promise to the team.

Barnhill is a towering presence on the ice with a height of 6’5” and weighing in at 200 lbs.  Finalizing his season with the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 16U AAA team, Sean will join the team immediately. During his time with Phoenix, he made a significant impact, amassing an impressive 18 points in 35 games, including 7 goals and 11 assists.

Despite his young age, Barnhill has already set his sights on a bright future in hockey, committing to Northeastern University in the NCAA for the 2026-27 season. Coach Colin Birkas expressed his excitement about Barnhill's potential and the opportunity he brings to the Clippers.

"The team has gone through a number of injuries recently. Circumstances aren't the best for the team, but that has created a great opportunity for a young player to come in and play in the best junior league in Canada," Coach Birkas commented. "Sean is a top-end player in the US for his age group and is committed to Northeastern University. With his skill set at his current age, it's very likely he will be an NHL draft pick in 2025. We're excited to have him here down the stretch."

Nanaimo Clippers fans can look forward to witnessing Barnhill's defensive prowess, elite skating, and contribution to the team's success as the season progresses. Sean takes the ice for his first game with the Clippers’ tonight, March 22nd as they face off against the Surrey Eagles on the road.
