The Clippers enter the week with a share of first place in the Island Division after a win and a tie at the BCHL Showcase.

Nanaimo won 3-2 in overtime on Friday in a back and forth game with the Chiefs.

Max Crozier set up Tristan Crozier for the OT winner in that game, and the the next day the Clippers went beyond 60 minutes again but this time there was no winner.

Austin Roden was a big story on Saturday making 37 saves on 40 shots, and Jake Harris notched his fourth power play goal this season in the final minute to earn Nanaimo an important point.

This weekend the Clippers will be on the road Friday in Alberni Valley and home on Saturday to the Vernon Vipers.

Nanaimo played the Bulldogs in their home opener and won that game 5-3.

It was a tight battle that Alberni led after 40 minutes but the Clippers came through with a big third to secure the win.

Vernon has nine points on the season, just like the Clippers do, and they’ll come to Frank Crane Arena on Saturday after a matchup down in Victoria the night before.

Last season Nanaimo and Vernon met three times with the Vipers taking all three meetings.

Friday’s game will feature a fan bus going to Port Alberni.

Saturday is the first night of the School Cheer Off for the 2017-2018 campaign.

Uplands Elementary will compete against Pauline Haarer and the loudest school will move into round two of the competition.
