CLIPPERS GO DOWN 6-3 IN COQUITLAM

A tight defensive battle for two periods turned into an old fashioned shootout in the third period in Coquitlam on Friday.

Nanaimo lost 6-3 to the Express in a game that featured only three goals combined in the first 40 minutes.

Cal Babych gave the Clippers a 1-0 in the first period, but ex Nanaimo forward Jack MacNab tied the game before Colby Pederson’s power play goal put Coquitlam up 2-1.

Both Nanaimo goalie Noah Featherstonhaugh Gowe and his counterpart Brock Hamm were perfect through the second period, but the offenses took over in the third.

Eric Linell put the Express up 3-1 before Parker Colley pulled Nanaimo back within one with a shorthanded effort.

Shortly after Jake Toor banged in a loose puck on what would eventually be the game winner.

Coquitlam also added markers from Joshua Wildauer and Christian Sanda.

Nanaimo got the final goal of the night from Brad Belisle on a five on three power play.

The shots finished 36-21 in favour of the Clippers and both clubs were 1/8 on the man advantage.
