NANAIMO — The Clippers were on the wrong side of an 8-2 score at home on Wednesday night. The Victoria Grizzlies built up a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes and never looked back.

Both Cam Thompson and Ryan Nolan had a pair of first period goals in the first for the visitors. In the second period the Grizzlies scored again with a power play tally by Nico Somerville.

That’s when Nanaimo made a goaltending switch from Landon Pavlisin to Jordan Naylor. Just 13 seconds later Mackenzie Merriman banked a puck in the from left side, but Victoria added goals by Henri Schreifels and Jeremie Bucheler on the power play to lead 7-1 at the intermission break.

The teams traded power play goals in the third period with Carter Berger scoring for the Grizzlies and Ethan Scardina countering with a deflection for Nanaimo.

Scardina continues to be hot, he was runner up for BCHL Player of the Week last week and he now has goals in four consecutive games.

The final shots finished 47-31 Victoria with Kurtis Chapman getting the win.

On the power play the Grizzlies were 3/5 while the Clippers went 1/4.

Wednesday’s Three Stars were Cam Thompson, Ryan Nolan, and Alex Newhook.

Thompson and Nolan each had four points while Newhook earned three.

This weekend Nanaimo has a pair of home games for their Parents Weekend against the Surrey Eagles at 7 p.m. on Friday and the Powell River Kings Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m..
