POWELL RIVER — The Clippers got off to a good start but gave up the final four goals of the game in a 4-1 loss to the Kings on Saturday. Sammy Steele gave Nanaimo a 1-0 lead with a wicked wrist shot from the right wing that stood up until literally the last second of the first period.

The green light to end the period went on before the red goal light, when Josh Coblenz got credit for a bounced in marker at the final buzzer. Despite protests from the Clippers, the officials discussed the call and allowed the goal to stand.

The game was even until a Neal Samanski wrist shot gave the Kings a 2-1 lead in the late stages of period two. Also in the second Jack Long was assessed a major penalty for a blow to the head on the Clippers Zack Dallazanna. Kyler Kovich jumped in to scrap with Long and both were tossed from the game, Dallazanna was unable to finish either.

It was the second game in a row that Nanaimo finished the game minus two forwards.

Coblenz added two late goals in the third to give Powell River a 4-1 decision and up their lead in the season series to 5-0.

The Kings outshot Nanaimo 37-22 with Mitch Adamyk getting the win over Landon Pavlisin. Pavlisin was the best Clipper in the game and named the second star.

Josh Coblenz was first star with a hat trick and Ben Thomas was picked the third star with two assists.

Powell River went 2/6 on the man advantage with the Clippers finishing 0/3.

The same two teams will battle at Frank Crane Arena on Sunday November 11.

Next up for Nanaimo is a home date with the Cowichan Valley Capitals Friday, November 2 at 7 p.m.
