Another Tight Game for Nanaimo and Cowichan

The Clippers and Capitals played to yet another one goal game on Saturday.

Cowichan won the game 4-3 to wrap up a seven game season series with five one goal games and four of those went to overtime.

Steven Iacobellis opened the scoring at 4:35, Kyle Kramer tied the game at 11:11, but Jake Charles notched the go ahead marker at 15:19 on a power to give the Caps a 1-0 lead after one.

Nanaimo had a strong second period with goals by Clayton Chessa coming around the net at 3:09 and Luke Gordon ripping one off the crossbar and in at 11:01 on the man advantage.

A strong push by Cowichan Valley gave them a 4-3 lead early in the third with goals by Iacobellis at 1:22 and Devin Gannon at 5:08 on a power play.

Then it was Nanaimo's turn to turn up the heat with Andrew Gladiuk nearly scoring high to the glove side on Derek Dun and Graeme McCormack hitting the post.

The Clippers came close but couldn't tie the score.

Cowichan outshot Nanaimo 47-43, so it was a busy night for both Billy Faust and Dun.

On special teams the Clippers were 1/4 and the Capitals went 2/6.

Saturday's three stars were 1) Steven Iacobellis 2) Jake Charles 3) Devin Gannon

Game two of Nanaimo's six game road set is Wednesday in Coquitlam in one of three head to head meetings left against the Express.
