CLIPPERS POUR IT ON BUT CAN’T BEAT EAGLES CAVALIERE

The Clippers were defensively sound, they played with passion, and energy but they ran into a hot goalie on Sunday in a 1-0 loss to the Surrey Eagles.

Surrey netminder Mario Cavaliere has had only four starts in the BCHL and three of them have in ended in shutouts.

He made 48 saves as Nanaimo outshot the Eagles 48-28.

Noah Featherstonhaugh Gowe was sharp in net too, beaten only by Ryan Brushett early in the second period.

On special teams Nanaimo went 0/5 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill.

The Clippers have dropped seven games in a row, but the signs were all there on Sunday that the team had turned a corner.

There’s a sense of a fresh start for the team with the possibility of Taz Burman, Jake Harris, and Vincent Millette all coming off the injured list this week.

Nanaimo will play on the road Friday in Victoria and Saturday in Powell River.
