NANAIMO – Tyler Williams was the hero in a Clippers 5-4 overtime win over Cowichan Valley.

Williams completed his first BCHL hat trick with the OT winner. He also gave Nanaimo a 1-0 lead in the first period before the Capitals pulled ahead 2-1 on goals by Kolton Cousins and Paul Selleck.

Williams and Ethan Scardina gave the Clippers the lead back in the second, but Adam Conquest tied the score at 3-3 before the end of the period. All three goals in the second period were scored on the man advantage.

Sammy Steele, with his third goal in four games, put the Clippers up 4-3 early in the third only to have Peter Tabor even the score yet again.

In overtime Steele almost won the game early but hit the post in behind Blake Wood.

But it was Williams’ night as he went coast to coast to complete his hat trick, three and a half minutes into the three on three session.

Jordan Naylor took the win over Wood, with the shots finishing 37-32 for Nanaimo.

The Clippers were 2/4 on the power play with Cowichan going 1/6.

Friday’s Three Stars were Tyler Williams (3 goals, 1 assist), Ethan Scardina (1 goal, 2 assists), and Adam Conquest (1 goal, 1 assist).

Nanaimo heads to Victoria next to face the Grizzlies on Sunday at 2 p.m.
