2-1 was the magic score as the Nanaimo Clippers kicked off their 40th season at the BCHL Showcase.

On Saturday Jesse Neher had the only goal in a 2-1 setback to the Chilliwack Chiefs. Jason Argue was strong in net stopping 28 of 30 shots. The difference in the game was a pair of powerplay goals by the Chiefs, who went 2/8 on the man advantage while the Clippers were 0/7. On Sunday Nanaimo took out Salmon Arm 2-1 after building a 2-0 first period lead. Michael McNicholas fired in a low shot and then Reid Sturos went high on a shorthanded chance to put the Clippers in front.

Against the flow of play the Silverbacks got one goal back in the final minute of the second period, but there was no more scoring in the third. Nanaimo was 0/6 on the powerplay and Salmon Arm went 0/4. The Clippers did outshoot the Backs 40-22. Sunday's Three Stars were 1) Adam Clark 2) Brendan Taylor 3) Reid Sturos

The home opener is at 7pm Saturday September 15th against the Powell River Kings. Nanaimo beat Powell River 4-0 on the final day of the exhibition season.
