NANAIMO CLIPPERS ACQUIRE NICK MAHAR

The Nanaimo Clippers have been busy acquiring high level talent when the green light is given to restart Junior A hockey. With that in mind, the Clippers have signed 2003 born Nick Mahar, a high skill forward from Sydney Nova Scotia, for the 2021-2022 season. In 2020-2021, Nick is playing for the Sydney Rush U 18 team of the Nova Scotia U18 Major Midget Hockey League. In a shortened season, Nick leads his team in scoring with 26 points in 18 games including 16 goals, good for 5th overall in league scoring.

Darren Naylor, Head Coach and GM of the Clippers noted; “Our scouting reports indicate that Nick is one of the top players for his age group in the Maritimes. He is a shifty, high skill center that has BCHL speed and can make plays at top speed. We see Nick being an important part of the Clipper organization for 2 to 3 years before heading off to an NCAA Div 1 school.”

Colin Birkas, Associate Coach of the Clippers, added; “With a break from any games over the last few months due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, Darren and I have been spending most of our time pouring through stats and video tape looking for diamonds in the rough. Nick has come highly recommended and appears to have the skills and hockey IQ to be an impactful player in the BCHL over the next few seasons. We are definitely excited to sign him as he was highly sought after by other teams.”
