Nanaimo 3 vs Chilliwack 2 – April 4 Game Summary

Road dominance has been the story for the Clippers in the playoffs after a 3-2 win in Chilliwack.

Nanaimo has won all six road playoff games and haven’t lost a game away from home since January 15th.

The game was scoreless into the second period thanks in large part to the goaltending of Evan Johnson.

Nanaimo’s goalie stopped all 25 shots in the first 40 minutes.

Meanwhile Chris Dodero scored on a power play halfway through the second, shovelling a rebound high over goalie Aidan Pelino.

The Chiefs tied it early in the third on a shot from the slot by Darien Craighead, but Matt Hoover gave the Clippers the lead back four minutes in on a wicked one timer on the man advantage.

Vimal Sukumaran tied the game on a rebound before the the mid way point of the period, and it looked like the game was headed to overtime.

But Yanni Kaldis ripped a wrist shot to the glove side in the final minute to give Nanaimo a 3-2 win.

It was his fifth goal of the playoffs and his fourth game winner.

The final shots were 41-27 for the Chiefs with Nanaimo going 2/5 on the power play and Chilliwack finishing 0/3.

Monday’s Three Stars were 1) Evan Johnson 2) Dennis Cholowski 3) Yanni Kaldis

If the Clippers beat West Kelowna at home on Friday, they will advance to the Fred Page Cup as the home team.
