Clippers Win First Home Game of 2012

The Clippers snapped a three game losing streak with a 6-2 win over the Langley Rivermen on Friday.
 
It was the first home game of 2012 and moved Nanaimo over the .500 mark to 8-7-0-2 at Frank Crane Arena.
 
Langley was able to open the scoring at 7:06 of the first period on a shot from the slot by Mario Puskarich but the Clippers would respond with a Trevor Fitzgerald power play goal at 10:16.
 
Mike Tebbutt scored a controversial goal at 13:26 of the first that was on the cusp of being a high stick but the visitors did take a 2-1 lead to the locker room after the first.
 
There was no scoring in the second period but Nanaimo had a wide edge in the play outshooting Langley 16-7.
 
In the third period the Clippers exploded for five goals, Kyle Kramer 38 seconds in, and then at 1:55 Tristan Lowenberger scored his first of the season.
 
Colton Cyr scored back to back at 5:50 and 14:16 before Brett Hartskamp capped the night with a power play goal with just over a minute left.
 
The line of Cyr, Lowenberger and Hartskamp combined for seven points in the game – all in the third period.
 
Nanaimo went 2/7 on the man advantage while Langley was 0/3. 
 
Goalie Jim Kruger was busy facing 56 shots while Billy Faust had an easier night for the Clippers with 28 shots against.

Each team has now won three games in the season series which will conclude February 25th in Langley.
 
With the two points the Clippers move to two points back of the final playoff spot in the Coastal Conference.
 
Next up is a Wednesday game in Surrey, then Nanaimo is back on home ice against Cowichan on Friday.
