NANAIMO — The Clippers and Grizzlies played a tight game, that looked a lot like a playoff matchup. Both teams played an up tempo style and both sides had great goaltending in a contest won 3-1 by Victoria.

It was a tight first period with the Grizzlies getting the only goal. Carter Berger had his centring pass deflect in behind Landon Pavlisin to give the visitors the lead heading to the intermission break.

The second period was all Nanaimo as they outshot Victoria 17-2. Zach Rose made several huge stops including robbing Robby Drazner on a breakaway chance.

The Clippers broke through in the third period with a power play goal from Mackenzie Merriman. He snapped home a quick shot from the front of the net to even the game at 1-1.

Stephen Konroyd got the winning goal with just over six minutes left when he powered home a shot that just snuck by Pavlisin. Nico Somerville’s empty netter with five seconds remaining secured the Grizzlies 3-1 win.

The final shots were 32-27 in the Clippers favour while Nanaimo went 1/5 on the man advantage and 2/2 on the penalty kill.

Wednesday’s Three Stars were Mackenzie Merriman (1 goal), Kyler Kovich (1 assist), and Carter Berger (1 goal).

On Friday the Clippers host the Vernon Vipers as they look to snap a five game losing streak.

Nanaimo won the only other head to head matchup 4-3 in overtime in September at the BCHL Showcase.
