NANAIMO — The BCHL season is over for the Clippers after a 5-1 loss to the Powell River Kings in Game 5.

In the first period the Kings came out firing with goals by Neal Samanski and Ben Thomas in the first five minutes.

Nanaimo was able to regroup and get on the board in the second period thanks to a Josh Bourne power play goal. But the Kings struck twice quickly with markers by Levi Glasman and Mitchell Williams to go up 4-1.

The Clippers made a goaltending switch from Landon Pavlisin to Jordan Naylor after the fourth goal. Williams scored before the end of the second to bring the score to 5-1.

Naylor and Mitch Adamyk of the Kings played shutout hockey in the third as Powell River earned the series win.

The final shots were 42-26 for the Kings with Nanaimo going 1/5 on the power play and 2/2 on the PK.

Gunnar Wegleitner and Sammy Steele finished as the co-leaders in playoff scoring with four points each.

The Clippers organization says goodbye to Marcus Mitchell, Carter Stephenson, Danny Gatenby, Gunnar Wegleitner, and Jordan Dawson as they now graduate from junior hockey.

Nanaimo will bring back a strong core of returnees for the 2018-2019 season.

The Kings advance to play the Victoria Grizzlies for the third straight year in the Island Final.
