Clippers defeat Alberni Valley Bulldogs 3-1

NANAIMO — The Clippers have won two straight games after a 3-1 victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Thomas Samuelsen opened the scoring on a deflection just 23 seconds into the game. He’s been red hot with three goals in his last four games.

Bulldogs leading scorer Ryan Miotto evened it up late in the first on a shot that looped in behind Jordan Naylor. Marcus Mitchell tipped home a Tyler Williams shot on a power play to give Nanaimo a 2-1 lead through 20 minutes.

The goalies were both perfect in the second, with Cole Demers stopping all 13 shots he faced and Naylor making seven stops for the Clippers.

Sammy Steele ripped home the only goal of the third period as he snapped a shot from the right circle stick side behind Demers.

The Clippers outshot the Bulldogs 34-31 and Nanaimo went 1/4 on the man advantage and 2/2 on the penalty kill.

Wednesday’s Three Stars were Marcus Mitchell (1 goal), Tyler Williams (2 assists), and Aaron Bohlinger (0 pts).

Nanaimo is now 2-2 in the their season series with the Bulldogs and have won the last two straight head to head meetings.

Before the Christmas Break Nanaimo has a home game against the Grizzlies on Friday and a road contest versus the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

The Clippers are five points clear of Alberni Valley for third in the Island Division and seven points up on fifth place Cowichan.
