CLIPPERS BREAK THIRD PERIOD TIE, WIN 3-2 OVER WARRIORS

NANAIMO – Last season West Kelowna knocked the Clippers out of the playoffs, but on on Friday night they got a small measure of revenge with a 3-2 victory at Frank Crane Arena.

The win improves Nanaimo’s record to 10-6-0-2 on the season.

The Clippers now have points in eight of their last nine games, and the win over Warriors was made a little more special with the players families in attendance for Parents Weekend.

West Kelowna took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Jon Russell.

Jamie Collins tied it in the second, but the Warriors took the lead back 13 seconds later when Chase Dubois scored off a face off in the Nanaimo zone.

Matt Creamer tied the game again with a shorthanded goal to send the game to the intermission at 2-2.

Nanaimo got their first lead in the third period thanks to a spectacular power play rush by Ben Solin.

His sixth of the year was the key moment in a hard working team effort by the Clippers.

Nanaimo outshot West Kelowna 32-28 with Evan DeBrouwer getting the win over Trevor Martin.

Both teams had five power plays and the Clippers had a successful night with a power play goal and a shorthanded tally.

Now Nanaimo has a one day break before hosting the Powell River Kings Sunday at 2pm.
