CLIPPERS ALONE IN FIRST PLACE AFTER 5-2 WIN AT ALBERNI VALLEY

The Clippers are all alone in first place in the BCHL’s Island Division after a 5-2 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

The line of Brad Belisle, Lucas Vanroboys, and Josh Bourne led the way with eight points.

Vanroboys and Bourne scored in the first period to put Nanaimo up 2-0.

Bourne finished with a goal and an assist in his first game after signing a Junior A card with the Clippers.

James Orban brought the Bulldogs within one when he scored in the second period, but Tristan Crozier restored the Nanaimo two goal lead with a power play goal on a five on three.

Connor Welsh responded on an Alberni Valley man advantage to close the gap to 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Vanroboys and David Silye scored in what was a very strong third period for Nanaimo to give the Clippers their third win a row.

The Clippers outshot the Bulldogs 34-22 with Taz Burman getting the win over John Hawthorne.

On special teams Nanaimo was 1/5 on the power play while Alberni finished 1/3.

Wednesday was Nanaimo’s seventh consecutive road game, and the team finished with a 5-2 record.

Leading scorer Jake Harris left the game in the second period, it’s hoped that was just precautionary and he should back in the Clipper lineup on Friday when they host Alberni Valley at 7pm.
