The worst of times and the best of times describes the Clippers last weekend of home games with a 9-1 loss to Powell River and a 5-2 victory over the Grizzlies.

Friday’s contest versus the Kings was a tight 2-1 affair through 39 minutes but a last minute short handed goal in the second period by Powell River seemed like foreshadowing for a disastrous third period.

They scored six goals in a nine minute span to hand the Clippers a humbling defeat.

But the players used that game as motivation for an impressive win over Victoria less than 24 hours later.

It was Nanaimo’s best defensive effort of the season, allowing just the two goals and 21 shots against.

This week is the Clippers first extended road trip of the season with games at the BCHL Showcase Friday and Saturday.

They play in the marquee matchup on Friday night against the host Chiefs, a team that beat Nanaimo in both meetings last season.

Saturday afternoon the Clippers battle Wenatchee.

Last year’s game with the Wild at Frank Crane Arena in December was one of the best games of the season.

The Clippers won it 4-3 in overtime thanks to two goals from current captain Jamie Collins.

The Clippers aren’t back home until they host the Vernon Vipers on Saturday September 30.

Before that they visit Alberni Valley on Friday the 29th.

There’s a fan bus going to that game with details available here on the website or by calling the office at 250-751-0593.
