CLIPPERS CAN’T SURVIVE PENALTY PARADE IN 4-3 LOSS TO VERNON

On a night when the Clippers were on the penalty kill ten times, it’s not surprising the difference in a matchup with Vernon was a Vipers power play goal.

Nanaimo lost 4-3 to Vernon on Saturday in a seesaw game at Frank Crane Arena.

In the first period the Clippers were shorthanded six times but the game remained scoreless.

Vernon got on the board in the second period on a Jagger Williamson power play goal but Nanaimo countered with a rebound tally by Vincent Millette and a man advantage marker of their own by Cal Babych.

The Vipers added another goal on the PP late in the second when Michael Young snuck in from the point to beat Austin Roden and tie the game 2-2.

All the scoring in the third period was done with a man up as well with Tristan Crozier giving Nanaimo an early lead when he beat Anthony Yamnitsky from the right wing, but then Jack Judson scoring twice to give Vernon the win.

His last goal came in the final minute of regulation time.

The Vipers finished 4/10 on the power play and the Clippers were 2/4.

Despite so much time shorthanded Nanaimo did outshoot Vernon 28-26.

Saturday’s Three Stars

1) Jack Judson 2g

2) Tristan Crozier 1g

3) Jimmy Lambert 1a

The loss means the Clippers finish the month of September with a record of 4-3-1.

They have a huge division weekend coming up with Alberni Valley coming to Frank Crane Arena on Friday night and Victoria arriving on Saturday.
