THE CLIPPERS WILL STAY IN NANAIMO!

Press Release April 3, 2017

April 3, 2017

For Immediate Release:

On March 16, 2017 Mr. Ken Wagner, on behalf of the Nanaimo Clippers Ownership Group, held a press conference at the Frank Crane Arena.  During that press conference Mr. Wagner stated that the Ownership Group was considering an offer to purchase from another Vancouver Island based group.  In order to keep the Clippers here in Nanaimo it was imperative that there be some new ownership interest, preferably local based, to step up and invest in the Clippers.

Since that March 16th press conference there has been a tireless effort put in by numerous people from the Nanaimo Clippers organization to get out into the community and garner support for the team to stay here in Nanaimo. Through the process of meeting with interested parties it has been decided that the formation of the Nanaimo Clippers Hockey Society was a necessary step to keep the team viable.  Along with this step, a group of civic minded contributors have stepped up to support the new
Nanaimo Clippers Hockey Society by making a commitment to purchase a portion of the hockey club from the current ownership group.

As a result of this true team effort the Nanaimo Clippers will continue operating in the city of Nanaimo.  The creation of the Nanaimo Clippers Hockey Society, along with new local contributors joining the current ownership group is only a first step.  The Clippers will only reach long term stability within the city with additional contributions to the Clippers Hockey Society, a substantial increase in ticket sales and fan support, as well as a long term commitment from corporate partners throughout the city to help support the team.
