Nanaimo Clippers win the Island Cup

Lead by #17 Sean Donaldson the Nanaimo Clippers claimed the first Island Cup with a 5-4 win over the Victoria Grizzlies. Donaldson scored twice, including the winning goal, while single goals were scored by #3 Gianni Fairbrother, #22 Tim Washe and #61 Baxter Anderson. Assists went to #16 Brody Waters, #19 Nick DeSantis, #21 Moe Acee and #53 Jack O’Brien.

Clippers jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first period and increased it to a 4-1 by the end of the second. Victoria scored at 9:01 to reduce the score to 4-2. However Donaldson scored at 11:39 to regain the 3-point lead, 5-2.

Then at 13:27, Victoria started a series of times that they pulled their goaltender for the extra attacker. This resulted in Victoria scoring two goals. But the Clippers were able to hold them off with a number of key saves by #51 Jordan Naylor.
