NANAIMO, B.C. — The Nanaimo Clippers are pleased to announce the signing of Swedish goaltender Hugo Laring for the upcoming BCHL season.
The 20-year-old netminder joins the Clippers after developing in one of Sweden’s premier hockey programs with Frölunda HC, where he spent the past several seasons competing at the U20 Nationell level. Standing 6-foot-2 and catching right, Laring has built a reputation as a technically sound goaltender with strong positioning, poise under pressure, and the ability to read the play at a high level.
During the 2024-25 season, Laring appeared in 32 games for Frölunda HC U20, posting a 23-9 record while helping the club remain among Sweden’s top junior programs. He also gained professional experience through appearances with Frölunda HC and loan stints in Sweden’s HockeyEttan and HockeyAllsvenskan, continuing his development against older competition.
Laring has also represented Sweden internationally at the U17 level and was part of the country’s U18 national program, further highlighting his pedigree as one of the country’s promising young goaltenders.
“Hugo joins us from one of the best development programs in the world and has represented Sweden on the international stage multiple times. He is a smart goaltender who reads the play well and challenges shooters, and he will be a significant asset to our program.” said Colin Birkas, Head Coach & General Manager.
The Clippers are excited to welcome Hugo and his family to Nanaimo and look forward to seeing him join the team this fall.
