Nanaimo Clippers sign Jacob Hewitt

The Clippers have signed US-born Jacob (“Jake”) Hewitt for the 2021-2022 season. Jake is a 2002 born forward from Ashburnham, Maine, that comes from the prestigious Cushing Academy of the US Hockey School Prep League (USHS-Prep). Where he had 88 points, including 40 goals, in 98 games over his 3 years in the program. This is the same program that produced former standout Clipper Matt Hoover, an 81-point player in 2015-2016. Who is now playing pro in the ECHL with the Utah Grizzlies, after 4 seasons with Canisius College of the NCAA D1.

In 2020-2021, Jake played for Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks of the NAHL where he produced 12 points in a shortened 22-game season, including seven goals. He’s committed to go to Army (US Military Academy) of the NCAA Division 1 in 2022-2023.

Darren Naylor, Head Coach and GM of the Clippers, offered; “Jake has great vision and is a natural playmaker. He is very fast and his compete level is off the charts. He can also shoot the puck and can score. Add in that Jake was a Captain at Cushing Academy, so he brings some leadership qualities to the team too.”

Wes Mussio, Owner of the Clippers, added; “With it looking more and more like the US/Canada border will be opening soon, we have been scouting hard to find some high-level skilled players from the US to add to our roster as we are allowed six overall. Jake has top-end speed and a great work ethic, which I know our coaches demand, so he is going to fit in very nicely in a top six role on the team.”
