Nanaimo Clippers Game Day Intern – (Nanaimo, BC)

Job Title:                 Nanaimo Clippers Game Day Intern

Department:            Business Operations

Reporting:               Director of Business Operations

Job Summary 

Nanaimo Clippers Interns will be involved in the development and execution of the Nanaimo Clippers in-game and game day experiences. The intern will assist the Manager of Game Day Operations by assisting in the coordination of in-game elements, acting as support for the promotions team, mascot and in-arena host, carrying out activities such as the national anthem(s), puck drop or special ceremonies, and supporting the production of the game as a whole.

Interns play a huge role in our business operations and, in particular, the execution of the game day production, a time when all the work we put in at the office comes to fruition in our arena.  Our goal first and foremost is to provide our fans a terrific game day experience and we count on our interns to help make game nights memorable.  In addition to game nights, there are opportunities to get involved with all aspects of the sports business world, including game day production, sponsorship, ticketing and merchandise. Under our program, interns have the opportunity to work in all of these programs or drill down into one specific area. No matter what the choice, there will be hands-on work with a variety of projects.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare game day paperwork and deliver to the appropriate recipients by a specific deadline prior to the game.
  • Attend pre-game meetings with the Nanaimo Clippers staff.
  • Assist Promotions Team in their game day duties.
  • Provide assistance for in-game production elements such as pre-game ceremony, puck drop, national anthem(s), giveaways, in-arena host hits, on-ice games, etc.
  • Act as supplementary support for the Manager of Game Operations.
  • Coordinate with Game Operations/Community Events, Corporate Sales/Sponsorship, and Ticket Sales departments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Job Qualifications:

  • Organized with the ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast paced work environment.
  • Strong creative skills and knowledge of hockey.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with others.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible schedule – Must be able to work most home games, nights/weekends and holidays as required.
  • Must be dependable and have a positive attitude.
  • Must have a reliable source of transportation.

Nanaimo Clippers Communications Intern – (Nanaimo, BC)

Job Title:                 Nanaimo Clippers Media Intern

Department:            Media & Communications

Reporting:               Director of Business operations

Job Summary:

This position has various roles and opportunities which will be assigned based on skills and comfort level including:

  • filming & editing video – pre & post game player & coach interviews, special features, game highlights, press conferences, etc.
  • assisting with social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram
  • coordinating & creating content on the Clippers website
  • assisting with graphic design for promotional products
  • acting as team liaison with local media
  • facilitate needs of media on game days
  • other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge/Skills/Job Qualifications:

  • Organized with the ability to multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong creative skills and knowledge of hockey
  • Familiar with all social media platforms
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with others
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, outgoing and ambitious
  • Flexible schedule – Must be able to work evenings and weekends (28 regular season home games)
  • Must be dependable and have a positive attitude

This is an internship with great opportunity to break into both the business of sports and local media within the BCHL. The selected individual(s) will be given responsibilities and tasks based on ambition and eagerness to learn. There is also opportunity to gain on camera and hosting experience if desired.

Depending on the applicant a college credit can be earned if applicable to your course.
