FORMER CLIPPER IRWIN TO PLAY IN STANLEY CUP FINAL

 

Matt Irwin, who plays for the Nashville Predators, will be playing in the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The best of seven series will be starting Monday, May 29 at 5 p.m. P.D.T. The game can be viewed on CBC, Sportsnet and NBC.

Game 2 will be on Wednesday, May 31, game 3 is on Saturday, June 3, and game 4 is on Monday, June 5. If necessary game 5 would be on Thursday, June 8, game 6 would be on Sunday, June 11, and game 7 would be on Wednesday, June 14. All games are at 5 p.m. PDT.

Matt started his time with the Clippers as a call up from the Saanich Braves for three games in the 2004-2005 season. He then played the next three seasons for the Clippers, ending his Junior A career in the 2007-2008 season.

During his time with the Clippers, they won the Fred Page Cup in the 2007 playoffs and were runner-ups in the 2008 playoffs. He was also named best defenceman for the BCHL Coastal Division for the 2006-2007 and the 2007-2008 seasons.

During the regular seasons with the Clippers, Matt played 163 games, scoring 32 goals and had 60 assists for a total of 92 points. In playoff action, Matt played a total of 43 games, scoring 16 goals and contributing 12 assists for a 28 point total.

While at the Clippers, Matt had accepted a scholarship to the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
