WEST KELOWNA — The Clippers have built up a three-game winning streak, and they’ve gone beyond 60 minutes every time to do it. It started October 7 with a 4-3 shoot-out against Trail, it continued with a 5-4 overtime victory in Wenatchee on Friday, and the latest triumph was 3-2 in a shoot-out in West Kelowna.

The scoring took a while to get going with both teams getting solid goaltending. There was no scoring in the first period with both Nanaimo’s Landon Pavlisin and the Warriors Connor Hopkins stopping nine shots each.

In the second period West Kelowna went to the power play twice, including a five minute major penalty assessed to Connor Wetsch. Wetsch was also given a game misconduct for his hit on Cavin Tilsley.

The Clippers killed the penalties but in the final minute of the period ex Nanaimo forward Matt Kowalski scored on a rebound to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes.

Ethan Scardina tied the game early in the third before Kowalski tipped in his second of the night. Josh Bourne blasted home the tying goal midway through the period to force overtime.

Pavlisin and Hopkins were both perfect in OT, and the only goal in the shoot-out was by the Clippers’ Gunnar Wegleitner.

The final shots finished 46-35 for the Warriors. West Kelowna had two power play chances in the game while the Clippers had one.

Saturday’s Three Stars were Matt Kowalski (2g), Max Bulawka (2a), and Willie Reim (1a) – although Ethan Scardina and Josh Bourne (1g 1a), and Landon Pavlisin 44 saves had star worthy performances.

The Clippers conclude their weekend trip with a 3 p.m game in Coquitlam on Sunday afternoon.
