NANAIMO, BC – The Nanaimo Clippers are pleased to announce the signing of Swedish defenceman Carl-Otto “Otto” Magnusson for the 2026–27 season.
The 20-year-old from Gothenburg, Sweden, brings an imposing presence to the Clippers’ blue line at 6-foot-7 and 229 pounds. Magnusson spent the 2025–26 season in the QMJHL with the Moncton Wildcats and Saint John Sea Dogs, recording one goal and seven assists across 56 regular-season games.
Magnusson developed within the prestigious Frölunda HC program. He played 44 games for Frölunda’s U20 team during the 2024–25 season and also appeared in three games with the club’s senior team in the Swedish Hockey League.
“Otto is a big, strong defender who moves well,” said Clippers Head Coach and General Manager Colin Birkas. “We feel we can get some offence out of him as well. He has represented Sweden at the World Junior Summer Showcase and comes from Frölunda, which is a world-class development program.”
Magnusson represented Sweden internationally at the U19 level and played five games with Sweden’s U20 program during the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase. He was also invited to attend the Detroit Red Wings’ training camp in 2025.
“I’m really excited to join the Nanaimo Clippers and get to know all the guys, the town and the community,” said Magnusson. “I’m looking forward to getting over there, meeting everyone and competing with the team. I can’t wait to get started!”
