Clippers shutout Kings 3-0 to wrap up September

Story from Nanaimo News Now:

Jordan Naylor’s 32 save shutout was a major factor in the Clippers 3-0 shutout of the Kings.

The Clippers scored twice in the first period to get the jump on their island rivals on goals by Trevor LeDonne and Scott Mahovlich.

LeDonne’s marker was a hard low shot from just inside the blueline, while Mahovlich tipped home a Mike Kennedy point shot.

Josh Bourne supplied some insurance with a wicked shot from the right side in the second period.

Naylor was at his best in the third period, stopping all 15 shots that came his way, for his first career BCHL shutout.

Nanaimo did not have a power play opportunity in the game and killed off all five Powell River opportunities.

That included a five on three for 1:33 at the start of the third period.

The Clippers have finished September with a 3-3-0-1 record, and they also wrap the month tied with Penticton for the lowest goals against in the BCHL.

A busy week is coming up with Nanaimo headed to the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack for a pair of games Oct. 2-3 with Surrey and Victoria, before returning home to face the Kings on Oct. 5.
