CLIPPERS SCORE EARLY BUT GO DOWN 4-1 IN POWELL RIVER

A first shift goal by the Clippers Vincent Millette got the team off to a dream start in Powell River but it was the only offense Nanaimo would muster on Friday.

By the time the first period was over the Kings were ahead 3-1 on goals by Mitch Williams, Kevin Obssuth, and Ben Berard.

On the Berard goal it appeared Powell River was guilty of a trip but the play was allowed to continue and the puck was forced into the net.

The second period was well played by both teams but Nanaimo’s Austin Roden and the Kings Mitch Adamyk were solid between the pipes and the game remained at 3-1.

Early in the third period Josh Coblenz capitalized on a turnover to up the Powell River lead to 4-1 and that’s the way the game ended.

The shots on goal were weighted in favour of the Kings 54-24, and that included a 24-4 advantage in the third period.

Powell River was aided by a power play count of nine to three that included some five on three time as well.

Nanaimo killed off all nine man advantages, which gave the Clippers only their second perfect penalty kill game of the season.
