CLIPPERS LOSE SPECIAL TEAMS BATTLE 4-1 TO PRINCE GEORGE

NANAIMO — The Clippers failed to build on a strong performance Friday with a 4-1 loss on Sunday to Prince George.

Nanaimo played a strong forechecking game en route to a 2-1 victory over Cowichan to start the weekend, but lost a battle of special teams to the Spruce Kings on Sunday afternoon.

Prince George captain Brett Mennear scored a four on three power play goal to put his team up 1-0 after 1.

In the second period Vincent Millette sniped a power play goal of his own to tie it before Chong Lee and Drew Lennon connected on the PP for the Spruce Kings.

Lee’s goal was on a five on three, while Lennon’s marker prompted the Clippers to swap starter Evan DeBrouwer for Austin Roden.

A shorthanded empty netter by Ben Brar was the only tally of the third period.

Prince George was 3/10 on the power play while Nanaimo was 1/7.

The Clippers ended up outshooting the Spruce Kings 34-26 but could only beat goalie Tavin Grant once.

This week Nanaimo has a road game in Victoria on Thursday, and they are home to Powell River on Friday.

Tuesday is the BCHL trade deadline with the Clippers having room to make two more moves.
