CLIPPERS LOSE HEARTBREAKER 3-2 TO POWELL RIVER IN GAME 5

Game 5 went the way most people expected – a tight one goal game between the Clippers and Kings.

Fans at Frank Crane Arena were hoping to see a different result though.

It looked like the game was going to overtime until Carter Turnbull netted the winner with a minute and a half left in the third period.

He broke a 2-2 tie to give Powell River a 3-2 win and a 3-2 series lead.

Nanaimo twice had the lead thanks to power play goals by David Melaragni and Tristan Crozier.

But the Kings tied the game both times with Ben Berard and Kevin Obssuth getting the goals.

The Clippers won the special teams battle going 2/5 on the man advantage and 5/5 on the penalty kill.

Taz Burman faced 33 shots, and the Kings Matteo Paler-Chow had to deal with 32 in the contest.

The result sets up a must win Game 6 for the Clippers on Saturday in Powell River.

Game 7 would be back in Nanaimo on Sunday night.
