Clippers invited to tour HMCS Ottawa and HMCS Nanaimo

The Nanaimo Clippers were invited by the Canadian Navy to tour the HMCS Ottawa (FFH 341) and HMCS Nanaimo (MM 702) at CFB Esquimalt. At our November 11th Remembrance Day game the Clippers had worn jerseys designed by Lieutenant Tristan Robertson of the Royal Canadian Navy, that commemorated HMCS Nanaimo (K101).

The jerseys feature a Clippers logo with the HMCS Nanaimo (K101) replacing the Clippers sailing ship. The K101 served in World War II and saw actions on both coasts. The jerseys also featured Admiralty camouflage that was used in the war.

Representatives of the HMCS Nanaimo were also in attendance and received the Nanaimo's ship's bell back from the City of Nanaimo, represented by Mayor Leonard Krog. The bell was in the city's safe keeping while the HMCS Nanaimo (MM 702) was in refit.

HMCS Nanaimo (MM 702) is a Kingston-class coastal defence vessel that has served in the Canadian Forces and Royal Canadian Navy since 1997. Nanaimo is the third ship of her class. She is the second vessel to use the designation HMCS Nanaimo. She is assigned to Joint Task Force Pacific (formerly Maritime Forces Pacific) and is homeported at CFB Esquimalt.
HMCS Ottawa (FFH 341) is a Royal Canadian Navy Halifax-class frigate. Ottawa is the twelfth and final ship of the Halifax class that were built as part of the Canadian Patrol Frigate Project. She is assigned to Maritime Forces Pacific (MARPAC) and is homeported at HMC Dockyard, CFB Esquimalt.
