Clippers hosting U16 Showcase this weekend

The Nanaimo Clippers Hockey Club is use to hosting teams from out of town, however, this weekend is a little different as they will be hosting 10 teams  at once, for their JSHL U16 Showcase that will start on June 14 and go all weekend long at both the Nanaimo Ice Centre and Cliff McNabb Arena.

“10 teams, over 200 players and many more family members will be arriving in Nanaimo on Friday for our U16 Showcase” mentioned Tali Campbell, the Clippers Director of Business Operations “The U16’s are the future of the BCHL, but looking away from hockey this is big for our economy as many will be staying in hotels, eating here and shopping here.”

The Junior Spring Hockey League (JSHL) is only in its second year of operations, with this being the first year the Clippers have taken part “We felt it was something we had to be involved in, so we can start looking at the talent pool in our own backyard” Campbell said.

The Showcase will get started at noon on Friday, June 14 and won’t be over till Sunday, June 16th at 11:30pm, with 22 hockey games taking place at both ice sheets in Nanaimo. For more information on the league you can visit www.JSHL.ca.
