Clippers end 2018 with a 6-2 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs

PORT ALBERNI — The Clippers have been fantastic to close out 2018 with six consecutive wins. After Monday’s 6-2 win in Alberni Valley they’re up to 18-18 on the season and they’ve beat the Bulldogs four times in a row.

For the second straight game Nanaimo got off to a 3-0 first period lead on the road. Jonathan Stein with a shot from the right wing, Kyler Kovich showing patience from the left circle, and Tyler Williams in tight beat Bulldogs goalie Cole Demers in a four and a half minute span.

Hunor Torzsok was tossed from the game in the opening period after a checking from behind minor.

The teams traded goals in the second period with Aaron Bohlinger notching a power play goal for the Bulldogs and Tyler Williams firing home a loose puck behind Demers that led to Alberni switching to John Hawthorne in net.

In the third period the Bulldogs made the game close on a power play marker from Ryan Miotto, but Nanaimo put the game away with a man advantage marker from Sammy Steele, and a goal off the rush by Ethan Scardina.

The final shots finished 39-38 for Alberni Valley with Jordan Naylor very sharp in the Nanaimo net.

On the power play the Clippers were 1/3 and they went 3/5 killing penalties.

Monday’s Three Stars were Tyler Williams (2 goals), Ryan Miotto (1 goal, 1 assist), and Kyler Kovich (1 goal, 2 assists).

It won’t be long until the Clippers get back on the ice as they open 2019 in Cowichan Valley against the Capitals on Wednesday.
