COLWOOD — The Clippers started their post Christmas schedule with a 4-2 win against the Grizzlies. Nanaimo came out with one of their best periods of the season to take a 3-0 lead after one.

Ethan Scardina rifled two shots by the glove of Zach Rose and Thomas Samuelsen trickled one through on a man advantage. Both Scardina and Samuelsen are on impressive streaks. Scardina has goals in four consecutive games, and Samuelsen has connected in five in a row

The shots were 14-3 for the road team. The Clippers were penalized six times in the second period, and were down five on three twice. Victoria capitalized when Carter Berger snapped a shot by Landon Pavlisin with traffic in front on a two man advantage.

The teams traded goals in the third with Newhook blasting a puck by Pavlisin and Sammy Steele scoring on a wonderful toe drag to give Nanaimo the insurance marker.

The final shots finished 35-25 for the Clippers with Nanaimo going 1/6 on the power play and 8/9 on the penalty kill.

Saturday’s Three Stars were Ethan Scardina (2 goals), Sammy Steele (1 goal, 2 assists), and Alex Newhook (1 goal, 1 assist).

Nanaimo’s line of Scardina, Samuelsen, and Steele combined for seven points in the victory which was the team’s fifth in a row.

Monday at 2 p.m. the Clippers will play their final game of 2018 in Alberni Valley. With a victory they’ll be back to the .500 mark for the first time since September.
