CLIPPERS COME BACK TO EARN POINT IN OT LOSS TO TRAIL

The Clippers erased a 40 minute deficit to earn a point with the Trail Smoke Eaters on Friday night.

But they couldn’t come all the way back to grab the second point.

Nanaimo lost 4-3 in three on three overtime in what was a very entertaining contest.

Preston Brodziak opened the scoring in the first period on a Clipper power play, but quick goals by Smoke Eaters AP Bryce Anderson, and then Tyler Ghirardosi gave Trail a 2-1 lead after one.

In the final minute of the second period the Smoke Eaters extended their lead when Blaine Caton beat goalie Taz Burman on a power play.

Nanaimo had an excellent second period but couldn’t beat goalie Brandon Wells.

Their best chance was a shot off the post by Brodziak.

The Clippers came out hungry in the third and got a power play goal from top rookie scorer Max Crozier to close the gap to one.

Parker Colley came out of the penalty box and powered his way to the front of the net to get the Clippers the tying marker.

The game went scoreless through four on four OT, but two minutes into three on three Trevor Zins scored to give Trail the victory.

Both teams had six power plays in the game and Nanaimo out shot the the Smoke Eaters 42-29.

The Clippers have three out of the last four available points against division leaders Powell River and Trail.

Nanaimo can move back to the .500 mark with a win in Cowichan Valley on Sunday.

The Clippers and Capitals also battle Wednesday at Frank Crane Arena.
