The Nanaimo Clippers are pleased to announce the commitment of Cam Russo to their 2023-24 roster. Russo is a right-shot power forward, standing at an impressive 6’2” and weighing 190 lbs. Born on January 3rd, 2005, he comes to the Clippers from The Governor's Academy of the USHS-Prep league.
When asked about his decision to join the Nanaimo Clippers, Russo said, “I knew right away I wanted to pursue the BCHL. It’s been a successful league in the past and Nanaimo has a history of developing players to the NCAA.” His commitment to the league and the team is clear, and his dedication to improving his game is unwavering.
Russo credits his current coach, Brian McGuirk, as being instrumental in his development as a player. “My coach has pushed me to be the best possible player. He’s put me in a great situation to help my development and is a great role model for me,” Russo said.
Head Scout Josh Burgmann had nothing but praise for Russo, stating “Cam is a big, strong kid that has a real nose for the back of the net. He skates really well and is strong in all three zones. We are absolutely thrilled Cam has decided to take this next step in his development with us here in Nanaimo and the BCHL.”
Throughout the 2022-23 season, Russo finished with 13 goals and 15 assists, totalling 28 points in the same amount of games. His consistent performance on the ice has made him one of the standout players in the USHS-Prep league. With his talent, determination, and leadership, he is sure to be a key factor in the team’s success.
