Clippers Acquire Luca Grabas from the Chilliwack Chiefs

The Clippers made a series of deals on the January 10, 2022 trade deadline including acquiring Luca Grabas from the Chilliwack Chiefs for future consideration. Grabas is a 2003 born forward from Burnaby, BC. He played his minor hockey at the North Shore Winter Club and then moved on to the CCSHL (school academy league) first with the Pursuit of Excellence Program and then the West Van Academy. During his time at the West Vancouver Academy, he played alongside well known Clipper, Tristan Fraser. Grabas broke into the BCHL during the 2020-21 season with the Chilliwack Chiefs and has played two years for the Chiefs, collecting 3 goals and 4 assists for 7points in 35 games.

Darren Naylor, Head Coach and GM, stated; “As the trade deadline was looming, we started looking for a sandpaper type player who can play the middle. Luca is a quick skating, hardworking forward who, given an expanded role, can produce offensive numbers. He plays an energy game and always finishes his checks. I believe Luca is a several year player for us before he heads off to the NCAA.”

Colin Birkas, Associate Coach, added; “Grabas is a gritty 200-foot player with a strong work ethic. He also possesses a high hockey IQ and above average skill set. In speaking with some of the coaches at the NCAA D1 level, Grabas is definitely on the radar to get a college commitment shortly. I see him as a three-year player for our team, contributing at both ends of the rink.”
