The Nanaimo Clippers have further solidified their backend heading into the 2019-2020 season with the acquisition of Kabir Gill from Weyburn Red Wings of the SJHL for future considerations.
Gill is a three-year veteran of the BCHL playing for West Kelowna Warriors in 2016-2017 and Coquitlam Express in 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. He finished the 2019-2020 season in the SJHL after a late season trade. Previous to the BCHL, he exceled at Major Midget putting up 69 points in 88 games including 19 goals over 3 years. In the PCBHL, he accumulated a staggering 70 points in 63 games including 20 goals with the NSWC.
Colin Birkas, Associate Coach, who runs the defence for the Clippers noted; “Gill is a towering 6ft 5 d-man with a physical presence who takes care of his own end first. He is a highly skilled big man with a high hockey IQ who always makes a nice 1st pass. Also, Kabir possess an NHL level shot and has the ability to run a PP. He can help on the PK as well as he was a big part of the Coquitlam Express league leading PK last season.”
Darren Naylor, Head Coach and Vice President of the Clippers, added; “Kabir is a player I am very familiar with having coached him in the past. He was a player we thought about bringing in last season but our d-core was already in place and excelling. Kabir will bring us experience on the backend and is a very coachable and likeable teammate. Kabir has been developed in a culture of winning from his NSWC Bantam Western Canadian championship team to his Major Midget provincial championship.”
