Clippers acquire Ben Kotylak from the Calgary Canucks

The Nanaimo Clippers acquire Ben Kotylak from the Calgary Canucks of the AJHL.

Kotylak is a speedy, 200 ft player who sees the game well and competes hard. He has a local connection as he played Major Midget out of Nanaimo for the North Island Silvertips for the 2018-2019 season and also, played 11 games for the Nanaimo Buccaneers (Junior B) that year, including 7 games in the playoffs where he accumulated a goal and 3 assists for 4 points.

Over two years in Major Midget, Kotylak dominated putting up 80 points in 80 games, including 35 goals and 45 assists. In his two partial seasons in the AJHL, Kotylak played 40 games adding 20 points (12 goals and 8 assists).

Head Coach and GM Darren Naylor offered; “Ben was a player we liked in his Major Midget years. I saw him play quite often when he was in Nanaimo during the 2018-2019 season. He has been playing in the AJHL over the last two seasons and has really stepped up his game. I am confident he has the skill and speed to be an impact player in the BCHL. We expect him to chip in some goals as well because he has scored at all levels.”

Wes Mussio, owner of the Clippers added; “Ben is a much needed depth player as we are running into mid-season injury trouble. He has been on our radar since his days in Nanaimo and when we heard he wanted to come back to the B.C., we jumped on the opportunity.
