Tuesday, September 10, 2009 – Nanaimo, BC – With the launch of the B.C. Hockey League (BCHL) season on September 11,
Meyers Norris Penny LLP (MNP) once again announced its commitment to support the Nanaimo Clippers and KidSport™ Nanaimo
through the firm’s ‘Score for the Community’ program.
For every goal the Clippers score at home during the 2009-10 regular season, MNP will donate $10 to KidSport™ Nanaimo.
MNP launched the ‘Score for the Community’ program during last year’s regular season, and doubled their contribution to
$20 for every goal the Clippers scored at home during the 2009 BCHL playoffs. The Clippers scored a total of 100 goals
at home last year, bringing MNP’s total donation to $1,010.
“MNP is very excited about our ongoing partnership with the Clippers that allows us to reward the team’s success and support
the community at the same time,” said Garth Busch, MNP’s Regional Managing Partner for Vancouver Island. “Last year, we were
able to make a significant contribution to help establish the new KidSport™ Nanaimo chapter. We look forward to working with
this year’s Clippers team to support many more young athletes in Nanaimo.”
Established by Sport B.C. in 1993, KidSport™ is a community based sport-funding program that provides grants for
children aged six to 18 to participate in a sport season of their choice. There are 28 community chapters in B.C. and 177
chapters across Canada. Grants of $200 dollars can provide a child with a season of sport.
“The donation through MNP and the Clippers’ performance last season was fantastic,” said Catharine Edwards, Chair,
KidSport™ Nanaimo. “Not only did KidSport receive much needed funds, but the promotion helped to increase awareness
and attain our objective of getting children in the game. Through our |
total donations last year, KidSport™ allowed
43 children to play a season of sports through 13 different sport organizations in Nanaimo.”
“Meyers Norris Penny is to be commended for their ongoing commitment and support of our local youth through this
fantastic initiative,” said Bill Bestwick, General Manager, Nanaimo Clippers. “We are proud and privileged to contribute
and partner with MNP to assist KidSportTM Nanaimo.”
MNP’s total donation for the season will be tracked on a meter on the Clippers’ website (www.nanaimoclippers.com.)
The chartered accounting firm has also partnered with the Cowichan Valley Capitals and the Campbell River Storm (VIJHL)
to support other local charities on the Island.
