CLIPPERS WIN CRUCIAL BATTLE WITH BULLDOGS 4-3 IN OT

PORT ALBERNI – A night after the heartbreak of falling 2-1 to Penticton the Clippers felt the euphoria of a 4-3 overtime win over the Bulldogs.

It was a back and forth game that saw the teams go to OT for the fourth time in five games and extended Nanaimo’s lead for the final Island playoff spot to three points.

Paul Savage gave Alberni an early lead but Matt Creamer and Lucas Finner on a power play put the Clippers up 2-1 after one.

Henry Marshall scored the only goal of the second period to send to set up a dramatic third period.

The Clippers got the lead on a goal Jamie Collins with a shot from the left wing, but Trevor Cosgrove batted a puck behind Evan DeBrouwer to send the game beyond 60 minutes.

Nanaimo had a power play to start overtime but failed to score.

Later in the four on four Jake Harris came over the blueline and snapped a shot behind Brody Claeys to win the game.

The shots finished 35-35 with the Clippers going 1/5 on the power play and 3/3 killing penalties.

In the season series Nanaimo is 4-1-0-2 against the Bulldogs and their overtime record is now 5-5-1.

The Clippers will visit the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Tuesday with a chance to move within one point of the third place Caps.
