CLIPPERS PUSH LATE BUT LOSE 2-1 TO VEES

NANAIMO – A very entertaining 2-1 game went the way of the Penticton Vees Friday at Frank Crane Arena.

Penticton had a strong start on the road with goals by Taylor Ward and Owen Sillinger to take a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Goalies Mat Robson and Evan DeBrouwer took over after that, in fact DeBrouwer would be perfect for the rest of the night.

The Clippers finally beat Robson when Matt Creamer took the puck out of a goal mouth scramble and scored on a third period man advantage.

Nanaimo put on a press for most of the final frame and outshot the Vees 33-22 overall, but couldn’t manufacture the tying goal.

On special teams the Clippers went 1/5 on the power play and 3/3 killing penalties.

The season series finishes 1-1 with each team garnering a road win.

Now the Clippers will finish the year with eight straight divisional games, two against every team in the Island Division.

Saturday it’s a trip to Alberni Valley where the Clippers enter the contest with a two point lead for the final Island playoff spot.
