The Nanaimo Clippers have acquired 2002 born goalie, Chase Grsic, out of the OJHL to help backstop the Clippers in the 2020-2021 season. He’s a 6 foot 4 inch goalie that comes from Stony Creek, Ontario. In the last two seasons, he has posted a 3.16 GAA average and a .904 save percent in 46 games with the Thorold Blackhawks of the GOJHL.
Head Coach and Vice-President, Darren Naylor commented, “We have been looking hard for a competent backstop for the Clippers to augment our goaltending tandem. We were able to secure Chase from the OJHL because a number of teams have been dropping out due to COVID-19 restrictions. Chase is a bigger goalie who moves nicely in the net with a high compete level. He will definitely fill a much-needed gap in our roster and be a goalie of the future and present for the Clippers.”
Wes Mussio, owner and President, added, “With the new COVID-19 bubble rules, we have to carry three goalies in case one gets injured as we can no longer call up affiliate goalies from Junior B hockey or other programs. We have been on a nationwide search for an elite level goalie that can augment our other two goalies in the program and are very happy to be able to acquire Chase. With junior teams dropping out the season this year due to COVID-19 restrictions effecting viability of programs, we are seeing more and more high level talent becoming available almost on a daily basis.”
Chase Grsic will join the team this week and is likely to see some game time in the back to back series with Victoria Grizzlies this weekend.
